About Cheshire Investigation Agency
Cheshire Investigation Agency is a veteran-owned, family-operated private investigation agency based in Greenville, Indiana. We serve Southern Indiana first, work across Indiana in the field, and do records-based background checks and skip tracing nationwide from our Indiana office. Every case starts with a free consultation, and we give you a quote during that call.
Hiring a private investigator is a decision most people make under stress: a family question that will not settle, a business problem that needs facts rather than suspicion, or a legal matter where what can be documented matters as much as what happened. Our job is to replace rumour and uncertainty with lawful, clearly reported facts, and to tell you plainly when an investigation is unlikely to answer the question you are asking.
Meet Jc Cheshire
I am Jc Cheshire, the owner of Cheshire Investigation Agency. I am a service-disabled veteran and former Military Police officer with over 10 years of service, and I take both the work and your trust seriously. I am also a family man, and I understand what is at stake when a question involves your children, your home, your business, or your peace of mind.
We are family owned and operated. When you deal with this agency, you are dealing with the owners: we are personally responsible for, and involved in, every investigation we conduct. We apply the diligence and strict investigative techniques I learned in the military to each case, scaled to what the case actually needs. There is no hand-off to an anonymous call centre and no pressure to buy a larger investigation than the facts justify.
On the first call I will listen, tell you whether we can help, and explain the first step. If we are not the right firm for the problem, I will say so on that free consultation rather than after you have paid for work that was never going to help.
Licensed in Indiana, honest about the map
Cheshire Investigation Agency holds Indiana private investigator license PI22500020. That is the only private investigator license we claim. We are bonded and insured in Indiana, and we are an SBA-certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB). We are members of INspi, the Indiana Society of Professional Investigators, and of NCISS, the National Council of Investigation and Security Services.
Fieldwork such as surveillance, in-person verification, camera installation, and process serving happens in Indiana under license PI22500020. Online skip tracing, background checks, and records research are done from Indiana for clients anywhere in the United States. For Louisville and other Kentucky matters, records-based research is done from Indiana, and we explain what Kentucky requires before any fieldwork there. We will never describe an Indiana license as if it were a Kentucky or any other state licence.
Our focus is Southern Indiana first: Greenville, Floyds Knobs, New Albany, Jeffersonville, Clarksville, Corydon, Salem, Scottsburg, and the wider Louisville metro on the Indiana side, with Indiana fieldwork beyond that area scoped case by case. We do not keep a public storefront, and we do not list an office in a town where we do not have one. See our service areas, the Southern Indiana hub, and the full services index.

Who we work for, and how a case runs
We work for private individuals, attorneys and legal teams, insurance providers, and business leaders. That includes documented observation for family and custody questions, litigation and witness-locate support for counsel, claim and activity checks for insurers, and discreet fact-finding for employers dealing with internal theft, fraud, or policy violations. The right scope depends on who will use the findings, so we ask about your attorney, your claim, or your decision at the start, not at the end.
A case runs in four steps. First, a free consultation: call, email, or use the confidential intake form, and we give you a quote during that call once we understand the scope, travel, records, and deadline. Second, a signed retainer that spells out what we will and will not do, so there are no surprises. Third, the investigation itself, using lawful methods only: records research, interviews, surveillance, or installations, depending on the service. Fourth, updates as the case moves and a chronological written report at the close, with timestamped photos and video where surveillance was involved, so you and your attorney can see exactly what was observed and when. Whether evidence is admitted is always the court's decision.
We work within the law as a condition of the job. We comply with the FCRA, GLBA, and DPPA where they apply, and we do not use pretexting, hacking, wiretapping, trespass, or unlawful trackers. Consultations and case details are handled in confidence, and no investigator-client relationship exists until a retainer is signed.
