Surveillance Investigations in Indiana

Lawful, documented observation for parents, business owners, and attorneys, planned around the one question you need answered.

What surveillance is, and what it is not

Surveillance is direct observation for a lawful purpose. A licensed investigator watches from public places, or places they are lawfully allowed to be, and writes down what happened, when, and where. It answers practical questions: who is at a house during parenting time, whether an employee is where the timesheet says, or what a party in a lawsuit actually does on an ordinary day.

Cheshire Investigation Agency holds Indiana private investigator license PI22500020 and works from Greenville, Indiana (Floyd County). Our home territory is Floyd, Clark, and Harrison counties, and our surveillance fieldwork happens in Indiana, where our license applies. If a subject lives or works in another state, we tell you up front.

Surveillance is not tracking someone's car, reading their phone, or listening to private conversations. We do not trespass, wiretap, or place a GPS tracker on a vehicle you have no right to monitor. Indiana makes unauthorized tracking a crime under IC 35-46-8.5-1, and evidence gathered that way can hurt you more than it helps.

Who asks for surveillance

Parents and family-law attorneys call when a court order and the week do not match: missed exchanges, a child who is not sleeping at the address in the order, or a new adult in the home. Our child custody investigations page explains how we document parenting-time routines without interviewing the child or interfering with a pickup.

Business owners call about inventory shrinkage, time theft, or an employee who may be running a side business on company hours. Business surveillance can mean cameras on your premises, field surveillance of vehicles or routes, or both.

Attorneys, adjusters, and employers use surveillance on claims and litigation. That work has its own page: surveillance for attorneys and insurance claims.

How an assignment is planned

Good surveillance starts before anyone parks a car. We ask for the addresses, vehicles, a recent photo for identification, and any schedule you already know, such as work shifts, exchanges, or appointments. From that we recommend specific days and hours when the activity you care about is most likely, rather than open-ended time, and we check in after the first day so you can decide whether more time is worth it.

Each day produces a chronological written report with times, locations, and plain descriptions, plus the original timestamped video and photographs. Observation is kept separate from opinion. When nothing relevant happens, the report says that too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is private surveillance legal in Indiana?

Yes, when it is done from public places or places the investigator is lawfully allowed to be. We cannot trespass, wiretap, record private conversations, or place unauthorized trackers, and we plan every assignment inside those limits.

How much does surveillance cost?

We do not publish a price list, because cost depends on hours, travel, and how fast you need the report. Start with a free consultation. We'll give you a quote on that call once we understand what you need.

What if my child is in danger right now?

Call 911. A private investigator is not the police and is not a substitute for an emergency response.
